PORTRAIT OF THE MAN OF MY LIFE

Studio RGF

Arriaza 11,

Madrid

Opening:

15th of may :7pm:

There are always surprises, and PORTRAIT OF THE MAN OF MY LIFE has been a true revelation. From the slightly over one hundred portraits that made the final cut, one could compile a sociological and emotional x-ray of our society. There are as many portraits of fathers as there are of husbands or partners, closely followed by boyfriends and lovers, and even portraits dedicated to a very special friend—one of whom, in a particular case, is multiplied by fourteen.

It’s interesting to find several exes identified as the most important men in someone's life. Quite a few have also decided that the man of their life is themselves. There are portraits of sons, a few grandfathers or nephews, but the most intriguing are those of imaginary, idealized, or unattainable men—or those who appear as a coveted inspiration. And of course, there’s also that one who just can't get someone toxic out of their head and perhaps seeks to exorcise him through portraiture.

The three paintings—The Park, El Retiro, and The Path—invite viewers to step into silent, mysterious trails. Created with oil on white canvas and a limited palette of black and white tones, each piece depicts pathways surrounded by trees and shrubs, evoking the ambiance of parks or deep forests. The monochromatic approach gives the landscapes an ethereal, almost ghostly quality, as if these natural spaces were scenes from a dream or a distant memory, suspended outside of time. Complementing the exhibition are two black-and-white paintings of crows, the inhabitants of the forest.

The piece After Dinner captures the intimate aftermath of a meal, like fragments of a memory frozen in time. Painted in oil on white canvas using shades of black and white, it depicts a table with an empty tablecloth, used plates, wine glasses, champagne bottles, and other remnants of a gathering that has already ended. The monochromatic palette lends the scene a timeless, almost spectral atmosphere—reminiscent of the lingering trace left by meaningful moments once they have passed.
